Use the Mass Journal Posting activity to post transactions from one or more journals to the ledger. The only way to get transactions into the ledger from any journal is by posting them. Once the transactions are in the ledger, the Chart of Accounts balances are affected.
NOTE: A fiscal year must be defined for each transaction that is posted to the journal.
For each journal you want to post, select its check box in the Post column in the grid at the bottom of the form. You can select the Post check box for journals with a status of To Print or To Post at any time. For other statuses, you must first select the Post In Background Queue check box.
NOTE: When you select a journal to post, journal locking is activated. Clearing a journal's selection in the Post column deactivates journal locking for it.
Before posting the journal(s), select the Print option and then select Process to print the Journal Transaction Report as an audit trail of the items that will be posted. After reviewing and verifying the report, select the Commit option and then select Process to start the posting process.
CAUTION: If you have transactions that are out of the current period but elect to post them, mass journal posting does not prohibit you from doing so. Make sure that the Post Through date is correct. The out of period warning displays only after all posting is complete.
NOTE: The posting process will not stop if errors are encountered. All selected journals are posted before the error messages display. Therefore, you do not have to sit and watch the posting process; it will complete on its own. When finished, any errors display on a journal-by-journal basis.
You can also choose to post system journals using the Background Queue by selecting the Post In Background Queue check box. The system activates the Background option on the Actions Menu when this check box is selected. You must select at least one system journal. The journals are locked as part of the posting process run in the background.
Once the selected system journals are posted, if there are any errors, a Mass Journal Posting Background Message report shows the error messages.
The Background Queue form is accessible from the Actions menu.
