Serial Number Tracking, Inventory Parameters

Serial tracking allows you to track the serial numbers of items as the items move through the system through inventory, receiving, and shipping transactions.

On the Inventory Parameters form, select this field to use serial-tracking by default when adding new items. You can override the setting for a specific item with the Serial Number Tracking field on the Items form. On other forms, the Serial Number Track field is display-only.

NOTE: You cannot update this check box under the following conditions:

If the item exists on a material with a quantity issued greater than or less than zero.
If a serial record exists.
If a job for the item exists with a job transaction.
If unposted job transactions exist for a job where the primary item on the job is the same as the item that is currently being updated.
If the quantity in the On Hand field on the Items or Multi-Site Items form is greater than zero. (In this case you cannot update any of the lot or serial fields on the Items or Multi-Site Items form for the displayed item.)
