Event System Settings

Use the Event System tab to make settings related to the workings of the Application Event System (AES). Event System settings control various aspects of your interaction with the AES, including:

To make AES settings:

  1. Select View > User Preferences.
  2. Select the Event System tab.
  3. Adjust the settings to your preferences.

This table lists and describes your options:

    Setting Description/Comments/Procedures

    Check for New Messages Every

From the drop-down list, select the time interval at which the system is to check your Inbox for new messages.

    New messages

Play a Sound When selected, the system plays the specified .wav file to notify you of a new message.

To select the sound, click the ellipsis (...) button. Then, use the Select an Alert Sound dialog box to select the .wav file to use.

If you do not select a .wav file, the system plays a default .wav file.

To hear the selected .wav file, click Play.

NOTE: If you are using a remote desktop connection to log on to the system, you cannot hear this sound when it plays. For this reason, you should use this option only if you are logged in to the system locally.

Display an Icon in the Notification Area (Default option) When selected, this option causes the system to display an envelope icon in the Windows taskbar notification area whenever new messages are received. This icon displays only if you are logged in to the system.

When this icon appears in the taskbar, you can double click it to open the Inbox form and view your messages.

The system hides this icon again when you double click it to open the Inbox form, or when you refresh the Inbox form to display all new messages.

Display an Alert with Message Count When selected, every time a new message arrives in your Inbox, the system displays an alert message in a "balloon" above the Windows taskbar notifications area. This message lets you know both that you have new messages and how many new messages you have received since the last alert.

When you select this option, you can also use the Alert duration slider to control how long each alert message is displayed. This slider uses a scale from 10 to 30 seconds, in 5-second increments.

Selecting this option also enables the Preview button. To see a sample of the message that is displayed, click this button and watch the lower right corner of your screen.

    Inbox: Display unread messages using
Boldface Font When selected, the system displays any unread messages in your Inbox using a bold face font in the grid (top) view. This allows you to easily distinguish read and unread messages.
    Background Color

When selected, the system displays any unread messages against the specified background color, as displayed in the color square to the right of this option.

By default, the background color is the same as the Normal background color (see Run Time Settings).

To select a different background color for unread messages, click inside the color box. The system then displays a Color picker dialog box that you can use to select the color you want.

    Handler Editing

This option has to do with the display of metadata in the Event Actions form and with the behavior of the Event Handler Diagram form. You can choose to interact with these forms either in Normal mode or in Expert mode.

For more information, see Handler Editing Options.

  4. To see the effects of your settings on forms that are open, close the forms and reopen them.
